Meditation Methods
I have found meditation to be one of the most effective ways to relax and reduce stress, but getting started can be difficult for anyone. There are many different meditation techniques, but not every technique will work for everyone. So it is important for the beginner to take some time and experiment to find out which method works best. This article focuses on some excellent beginning meditation exercises.
Meditation Method #1
Ritual is important when practicing meditation. The ritual will involve meditating at the same time each day, setting the mood with incense, candles, and music. It is also helpful to set an intention at the beginning of the meditation session and then release all expectations.
Proper breathing is very important during meditation. There are a variety of different breathing techniques, but most important is to take slow deep breaths. Focus on the breath and all will be well.
Even though the ritual will be the same each day, the actual experience of meditation can be quite different from day to day. As you learn how to meditate properly, you will begin to feel at peace, and find yourself getting more and more out of each meditation session. Like any new activity, meditation takes some time to learn, but it well worth the time spent.
Meditation Method #2
While the ritualized approach works just great for some people, some find it difficult to set aside the same time each day. That’s OK, if you find that a less structured approach works best, then the best approach is to work meditation into your daily life. For instance, while exercising or simply taking a walk, develop a soothing rhythm, and go into a deep state of relaxation. This exercise induced meditation has a great many healthful effects on the mind and the body, and for many it is the best way to meditate. Qigong is a perfect example of a “movement” meditation.
The beauty of this meditation method is that it can be done anytime and anywhere. Unlike the structured approach, you do not need to worry about missing your appointed meditation time due to work or other demands. You are free to meditate when and wherever best suits your own needs.
Meditation Method #3
Simply being around the beauty of nature is often one of the most effective ways to meditate. Many people find that a long walk in the woods is the best way to clear their mind, and for many of us communing with nature was our first experience with meditation. Many people have experienced this form of meditation without even realizing they were meditating.
No matter how you choose to meditate, the most important part is to get started, and to make meditation part of your daily life. Whether you meditate every day at 7 a.m. or whenever and wherever you can fit it into your schedule, you will find that regular meditation sessions have a great effect on your spiritual, mental and physical well being.
